The SportsFit Return To Sport Testing Battery

Following a lower leg injury, whether it be ankle, hip, knee, or even returning to sport after a knee reconstruction, knowing if you are ready to return to sport is an important question. There are a number of tests that you can do, to determine your readiness. Ideally, you want your left and right sides to be equal.

At SportsFit, we put through all our athletes and patients through this testing battery to ensure that they are ready to return to sport.

1. Single Leg Sit to Stand

This is a simple test where you start sitting in a chair. From there, you stand up, on one leg, and repeat as many times as you can. Pass Criteria - Unaffected and affected legs are equal, along with a minimum score of 25 repetitions.

2. Single Leg Leap

This test is the first of the power tests. What we are looking for here, is your ability to leap forward on the same leg. Record your maximum distance, over 3 attempts. Pass Criteria: Unaffected and affected legs within 10% of each other.

3. Single Leg Triple Hop

This test is similar to the single leg leap, except now we are taking 3 leaps, continuously forward. Again, record the maximum distance over 3 attempts. Pass Criteria: Unaffected and affected legs within 10% of each other.

4. Single Leg Cross Over Hop

Similar to the triple hop but now we are hopping in a zig zag pattern. Repeat for 3 attempts Pass Criteria: Unaffected and affected legs within 10% of each other.

5. Box Hop

This last test is a speed test. Mark out 20 cm on the ground. Your goal is to complete as many side to side hops between the two marks in 30 seconds. Take plenty of rest inbetween each side. Complete for the left and right sides once. Pass Criteria: 60 hops in 30 seconds

At SportsFit, we are excited to have partnered up with Pitch Ready, to give our clients the same technology in return to sport post injury that the elite have.
